The following pages represent an attempt to produce a book of this character. The theory underlying the operation of these engines has It been discussed only to the extent necessary to enable the reader to appreciate the conditions which must be met by any successful engme. The greater part of the book has Jbeen devoted to a discussion of the weak and strong points in the various designs, to the features which give long and useful life and those which tend to cause early failure, and to the characteristics which best adapt different types to different uses. Gas Engines for the Farm Classic Reprint Clarence Floyd Hirshfeld Books
Finally! A good period book on the common farm engine! This book, by C. F. Hirshfeld and T. C. Ulbricht, is a reprint of a 1913 piece concerning the common hit and miss farm engine, as opposed to the lesser known but more written about industrial engines. This covers the simpler types of engines more appropriate for the uneducated farmer in great detail. Various aspects such as linkages, carburation, ignition, and cooling are covered, as well as specific engines such as the Manley, Novo, Ingeco, Fuller and Johnson, and Fairbanks Morse type "T", among others. The only complaint is that the photographs in the book are not reproduced clearly. It is an excellent source of original material for anyone researching the farm type hit and miss gas engines.Product details
